The Northern Echo BusinessiQ North East Awards 2023
Exis Technologies, leading global supplier of IT compliance systems for the management of dangerous goods in sea transport is pleased to announce that they have been shortlisted in the ‘The Northern Echo BUSINESSiQ Awards 2023’ Innovation Award category, with the Hazcheck Detect cargo screening solution.
Hazcheck Detect is a cargo screening tool that helps to detect misdeclared and undeclared dangerous goods and other identifiable cargoes of interest. Booking data is screened against thousands of complex rules using APIs, in real time, giving results from Hazcheck Detect within seconds using cloud based technologies. Clients receiving results from Hazcheck Detect can challenge their customers on suspicious bookings quickly and take action, perhaps insisting on presenting additional evidence to support the cargo description, arrange a cargo inspection or reject the load.
To date, four shipping lines, Maersk, ONE, Hapag Lloyd and PIL have purchased Hazcheck Detect comprising approximately 30% of global shipping volumes. Hazcheck Detect now screens approximately 15 million requests monthly and 40-50 high risk containers per week are being prevented from being loaded. Shipping Lines are coming together to discuss industry standard rules, ensuring consistent notification of suspicious cargo items helping to prevent re-booking of cancelled cargo amongst shipping alliances.
“Becoming software developer for the NCB Group over the past four years though has been the real catalyst for amazing new industry projects like Hazcheck Detect. The tool has incredible potential, not just as a screening tool for dangerous goods. We are also seeing interest from carriers to screen data for other items of interest, and within slightly different sectors of the supply chain. We are seeing applications to identify cargoes such as compliance, military, waste and illegal wildlife and the tool has applications outside of maritime sector – air cargo is another area where correct declaration of DG is critical and a tool that can offer virtual real-time screening would be useful” said Mike Durkin, CIO, Exis Technologies.
The awards ceremony will take place on 28th April 2023 at Ramside hall Hotel, Durham.
