CINSnet cargo incidents system wins Containerisation International award

CINS – the Cargo Incident Notification System established in 2011 by five of the world’s largest shipping lines, and developed by Exis Technologies – has been awarded the 2013 Containerisation International Award for Corporate Social Responsibility.  Managed by the Container Owners Association, the CINS network now has 25 members, including 11 major shipping lines, together with the TT Club and the International Group of P & I Clubs. A number of additional shipping lines will join the network in the next few months.

The Containerisation International Awards 2013 ceremony took place in London on 24 October 2013, where the founding CINS Members (CMA CGM, Evergreen Line, Hapag-Lloyd, Maersk Line and MSC – Mediterranean Shipping Company) who constitute the CINS Committee, were present to accept the award.

“It is an honour to receive this award as recognition for the CINS initiative, which all members see as a commitment to their corporate social responsibilities,” stated the CINS Committee.

CINS is a database system, developed by Exis Technologies, to capture key data from the container supply chain.  It was produced in response to the increasing volume of incidents that regularly disrupt operations and endanger lives, property or the environment.

Liner operators use CINS to capture important information relating to cargo and container incidents, providing an early warning of causes for concern that may be trending. This may relate to cargoes that display dangerous characteristics, not yet recognised as such in the IMDG (International Maritime Dangerous Goods) Code, as well as continuing or emerging unsafe practices in the unit load industry.

“CINS findings to date show a strong case to seek broader industry involvement, to increase the awareness of areas of concern and trends in containerised shipping, and continue to improve safety in the supply chain,” the CINS Committee added.

The Containerisation International Awards recognise companies and individuals that, over the past year, have made an outstanding contribution to the container liner shipping and logistics industry, through being innovative, proactive and pioneering.
